SCCAP’s Transitional Housing is an ongoing program that assists homeless families return to the mainstream of society and permanent housing. Our program operates 6 scattered site houses (Twin Falls, Filer, Jerome (2), Rupert and Burley). Families in the program are enrolled in the Family Development and Step-Up Programs. When assisting a homeless family, they are introduced to their Family Development Specialist, who helps the family identify strengths and weaknesses and develop an ‘Action Plan’ that is reviewed weekly (over a 26 week period), working to overcome barriers. Within this program is the ‘Step-up’ program which provides structure and guidelines the families must follow for progress and continued contact with their case managers. They must also agree to random drug testing. Tenants pay 20% of their adjusted gross income as program fees (rent), allowing them enough flexible income to pay off old debt and utility bills in order to move out successfully. 50% of their program fees are set aside for families that complete the program successfully. These can be applied toward permanent housing, whether it is for a down payment, first and last month’s rent, housing and utility deposits, washer and dryer, etc.
